Once you have decided on a domain name that you wish to use, follow the steps below to register your domain name:

Step 1: Go to http://www.godaddy.com as they are reputed to be one of the best domain name registrars.

Step 2: When you are at the site, type in your preferred domain name to search whether it is available i.e. not taken up by another person. If your domain name is available, click the “Proceed to Checkout” button. During the ordering process, there is a “promo code” box where you can key in the relevant promo code to get some discounts on your order. See sample below

Visit this site to get a list of the promo codes. Step 3: Once you have completed your order, an email confirmation will be sent to your email address (as provided by you during the ordering process) indicating your customer number/login name.

You will need this information to enable you to login to your godaddy account (domain name registrar) to set up your domain name server (after you have signed up a hosting account with your hosting company)- this step is to link your domain name to the nameservers on your webhost so that visitors can access web pages on your web server when they type in your domain name on their browser.
